Monitoring & Visualization
DNS Propagation Checker with Change Alerts
Queries many DNS servers, detects record changes by hash comparison and alerts through Discord and email.
Project Overview
Unexpected DNS changes are a classic sign of hijacking or misconfiguration. This tool queries a list of DNS servers for a record, detects when answers change, and alerts you.
Implementation Process
- Queries any record type (A, CNAME, MX, ...) across default, filtered (by country or owner), random or custom DNS server lists.
- Change detection by hashing results and comparing with the previous run.
- Optional storage of results in PostgreSQL or MariaDB.
- Discord and email notifications; output as JSON, YAML or tables.
- An
--expectedvalue to flag servers returning the wrong answer.
Results
Run from cron or as a service, it gives continuous monitoring of DNS records with alerts on change.
Benefits
- Early warning of DNS hijacking or accidental changes.
- Visibility into propagation after planned changes.
